ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

    Steve is the former chair of the firm’s private wealth services group. He helps his clients develop and administer thoughtful estate plans that navigate complex issues. He is a frequent author and speaker, and he is a lecturer at the University of Virginia School of Law, where he teaches courses on trusts and estates. Steve also is the host of the Legacy Planning, Once Removed podcast on thoughtful estate planning.  

    Steve lives in Albemarle County, Virginia with his wife and their four school-aged children.

    Jessica Barnes, LICSW, CCBHC

    Jessica Barnes is Heartland's CCBHC Project Director and continues to provide therapy to all ages and specializes in trauma, specifically Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Jessica is passionate about working with individuals with complex trauma as well as educating others about Trauma-informed care. Jessica also focuses on working with people with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness and Personality Disorders. 

    Jessica was born and raised in Siouxland and lives with her husband and two children. She enjoys spending time with family & friends, watching all kinds of sports, spending time outdoors, and visiting Okoboji in the summer. 

    Michelle Halladay, MS, LIMHP, LADC, LPC, LMHC

    Michelle is Clinical Services Director at Heartland Counseling Services, Inc.. Since joining Heartland, she has served as internship coordinator, mental health administrator, and now oversees all mental health and substance use therapy programs. Michelle is trained as an adoption-competent counselor and specializes in trauma. She also contributes to community initiatives, including co-founding the Trees of Hope program to support families in need during the holidays.

    Michelle, a Nebraska native, and her husband Kelly have two children Mason and Kinsey and reside in Salix, Iowa. If not at work, Michelle can be found watching baseball or crafting.
