State Farm $5 Billion Dividend Payout: What Customers Need to Know
August 20, 2026
If you had auto insurance through State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company last year, some unexpected money may be headed your way.
State Farm has announced a one-time $5 billion cash-back dividend for qualifying auto insurance customers who had auto insurance at some point during 2025. It is the largest dividend payout in the company’s history.
How Much Could Your State Farm Payout Be?
Payments are being distributed to customers across the country and are based on a percentage of the premium paid on those qualifying plans. Depending on the state, that percentage ranges from 4% to 10%, with payments averaging approximately $100 per vehicle.
Generally, customers may qualify if they had an eligible State Farm Mutual personal auto insurance policy active at some point during 2025 and their calculated dividend is more than $10. You don't necessarily have to still be a State Farm customer to qualify.
Because the dividend covers more than 49 million vehicles, State Farm says payments will be distributed in waves and may take several months to complete.
How Will You Receive Your Dividend?
Qualifying customers should receive information directly from State Farm by email or mail.
Customers with an email address registered with State Farm will receive instructions for accessing the dividend payment portal and choosing a payment method. Meanwhile, the company says customers without an email address on file will automatically receive a check in the mail.

Be Alert for Dividend Scams
As is usually the case when millions of people are expecting money, scammers may try to take advantage of the situation. Be cautious of unexpected calls, texts or emails asking for your bank account number, debit card information, passwords or one-time security codes in connection with your dividend.
You should know the official channels State Farm will use. The company says qualifying customers may receive an email from donotreply@e.sfdividend.com, and the official State Farm payout website is sfdividend.com.
Scammers can still make their tricks look "official," so if you're unsure and something doesn't look right, avoid clicking links or calling phone numbers included in the message. Instead, contact your State Farm agent directly or visit State Farm through an official website or contact method you know is legitimate (like the one above).
Be cautious with checks, too. A check that looks legitimate isn't always real. If you receive a State Farm "dividend check" and have concerns about its authenticity, verify it with State Farm before depositing it or spending the funds.
Put Your Dividend to Work for You
Once you've confirmed your payment is legitimate, consider how that extra money could help you reach one of your financial goals.
You could add it to your emergency savings, pay down a credit card or loan balance, prepare for an upcoming expense or deposit it into a savings account for something you're working toward.
