"Spread the Joy" shatters record, brings in more than 5,000 pounds of PB&J donations

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Security National Bank’s annual “Spread the Joy” peanut butter and jelly drive has raised a record 5,291 pounds of donations for the Food Bank of Siouxland.
During the past month’s drive, which is sponsored in partnership with television station KTIV, local residents and businesses brought in thousands of jars of peanut butter and jelly to bank locations across Siouxland.
After raising a previous record of 4,697 pounds last year, Security National Bank in November challenged the Siouxland community to bring in more than 5,000 pounds:
The community responded, bringing donations of all sizes to SNB locations in Sioux City, Dakota Dunes, Akron, Mapleton, Lawton, Moville — and even as far away as Sioux Falls.
“The fact that we were able to reach our 5,000-pound goal is a testament to the generosity of the people and businesses in our community,” said Jeremy Craighead, executive vice president of Security National Bank. “We’re proud to be a part of it, and to provide help to people in Siouxland who need it most.”
“We are very thankful for the community’s support and enthusiasm and we truly appreciate how this partnership with Security National Bank continues to grow in supporting the Food Bank of Siouxland,” added Bridget Breen, General Manager of KTIV. “It’s so inspiring to see how the generosity of Siouxlanders helped us break another record for this campaign.”
Peanut butter and jelly are among the most valuable products for food banks to receive, due to their high demand and nutritional value, according to Linda Scheid, executive director of the Food Bank of Siouxland.
“Donating peanut butter is the perfect metaphor for kindness — it’s simple, it’s sweet, it’s easy to do and it’s good for you,” Scheid said. “One simple gesture can go a long way to make a difference in someone’s life and the community.”
